Story To Song Program

This program facilitates collaboration between established musicians and veterans to turn a veteran’s story into song, providing a platform for reflection, transformation, and healing.

Here’s How It Works:

Submission:

  • Veterans are invited to submit poetry, stories, and songs at Warrior Songs events or through the website.
  • Veterans retain all rights to their original material.
  • Identities are kept confidential if desired by the veteran.

Selection:

  • Warrior Songs selects material that represents important issues faced by veterans and has the potential to be converted into songs.
  • Selections span all genres of music to reflect the diverse military population.

Songwriting:

  • A team of songwriters designated by Warrior Songs collaborates to transform the selected submissions into musical arrangements.
  • Whenever possible, military veteran songwriters are included in this process.
  • Submitting veterans are consulted during the process, and the final creation must be approved by the submitting veteran.
  • Veterans retain the right to retract their submission up to the point when the songwriter becomes involved.

Recording:

  • Songs are recorded in a professional recording studio to create a compilation CD.
  • Whenever possible, military veteran musicians are involved in recording, producing, and promoting the CDs.

Release:

  • The final product is a full-length CD released to the public.
  • CDs are given free of charge to veterans and sold online and at events to fund future volumes.

Testimonial

Betsy B.

Jason, although I had purchased your CD after meeting you in Dryhootch a while ago, I just started listening to it when I had some quiet moments to REALLY LISTEN. I must say that it struck some deep chords with me, and there were some painful messages. Despite this, it is giving me some inspiration to continue on my healing journey. Thank you for your music.
